Difficult, this one. Getting the very dark colour in Watercolour took quite a bit of layering.

Spring Iris
Brushing up on my Botanical illo skills, such as they are. This is one of our Irises, nicely challenging to draw and paint. Watercolour.

Done...I guess
Apart from actually starting a painting, the really difficult bit is knowing when it's done..usually it's more a case of: "If I do anything more to it, it'll only get worse..."

On with the show....sortafing
Okaaay, slapping down some paint on the 50 x 75cm board...learning to cope with acrylics hostility to blending. Apart from the background I havent used a brush wider than about 7mm....all sables and synthetics, mostly long pointy ones. Hard work but it seems to be working...so far.

Pull yourself together, man....
Having hit the wall, block wise I decided to please myself with my next
painting. So here's the maquette I've been doing for it. I'm not going
to guarantee that the painting will ever see the light of day, but hey,
the maquette was very enjoyable to do. Took about two days.
I haven't decided on medium yet. for something like this I normally use oils, but with my cheap lungs, and thinking about the waiting time for oils to dry between coats i may go for Acrylics.
I've just done a quick oil sketch to see if the idea looks like it might actually work out...

I guess it'll work. Time to cut a board for it...
